  Paraguay
Description
Surrounded by Argentina, Bolivia, and Brazil, Paraguay was settled by Guarani Indians who spoke their own language before the arrival of Europeans and the introduction of Spanish. Today, Guarani is widely used, but it was the sale of books in the official Spanish languages by which God introduced the Seventh-day Adventist message. Growth has been sporadic, and it is still a challenge to reach beyond Roman Catholic values in most parts of the country. Nonetheless, six in every ten members are youth. They and other laypersons form "Gideon Pairs" for evangelistic outreach and supplement the work of Global Mission Pioneers. The challenge is to involve more laypersons in missionary partnership.
