  Panama
Description
Panama links together Central and South America, and—at its narrowest point in the middle of the country—the historic Panama Canal links the Caribbean Sea with the Pacific Ocean. Most Panamanians are mestizos or mulattos of mixed Amerindian, European, and African descent who speak Spanish. Panama's birthrate is the lowest in Central America and economic growth is slower still. Only the Seventh-day Adventist membership growth rate is steady—and that due, in part, to women's and childrens' ministries. Educational and medical programs are the "right arms" of mission outreach. ADRA and Adventist World Radio fill roles in providing developmental and nurturing assistance for the church which records three out of five members as being under 30 years of age.
