  New Zealand
Description
This island nation about 1,000 miles southeast of Australia today has a largely Polynesian population comprising the indigenous Maoris, large numbers of immigrants from the neighboring Pacific islands of Samoa, Tokelau, Niue, Tonga, and the Cook Islands, plus descendants of European settlers. Special challenges to the Seventh-day Adventist Church are the secularism and materialism of a media-saturated society. The church has utilized satellite, video, and friendship evangelism creatively. "Fly'n Build" programs to island nations within the division is another outreach. Until recently, a Seventh-day Adventist hospital in Auckland spear-headed a strong health work, and the school system works well to reach both church and non-Adventist youth.
