  Kenya
Description
Straddling the equator on the eastern coast of Africa, Kenya is home to at least 70 distinct ethnic groups. Both Swahili and English are official languages and are heard in programming from Adventist World Radio. The Seventh-day Adventist Church is well respected not only for its health and educational work but also through two Adventist judges in the judicial system and a government minister. With a rapidly growing membership—the majority under 40 years of age—the biggest challenge is housing the congregations. The "Roofs Over Africa" program and other lay ministries have helped to meet their needs, but still many worship in rented halls. Public campaigns promise a continued growth because people are receptive to the Word of God. Innovative TV and satellite ministries are slower in developing.
