  Ireland
Description
Renowned for its lush green landscapes, Ireland is known as "The Emerald Isle." The republic occupies only five-sixths of the island located 50 miles off the west coast of Great Britain. Today's population is half of what it was in 1841, because half as many Irish live abroad as at home. With Gaelic spoken in some rural areas, Radio Telefis Eireann is the state-owned English radio and television network. Freedom of the press is guaranteed by the constitution, but the publication of matter deemed to undermine Roman Catholic moral standards is forbidden. Seventh-day Adventist growth has been slow but steady. The Emerald Health and Education Foundation supports a school and its outreach.
