| One of the oldest states in Eastern Europe, Hungary has a strong national identity from nomadic horsemen known as Magyars. A woman convert to the Seventh-day Adventist Church went to Germany's Hamburg Publishing House where she translated several Bible studies into Hungarian and then mailed them all over her native land. Adventist membership peaked in 1960. Recently the percentage of young people is increasing—some influenced by the programs of Adventist World Radio, satellite TV programming, and ADRA. The Adventist Seminary trains Bible teachers for public schools; others are offering health seminars, especially for stress control and smoking cessation. New Age thinking and Eastern philosophies present major challenges. | ||||||||||||||||||
