  Haiti
Description
Haiti occupies the western very mountainous one-third of the island of Hispaniola. It has two official languages: French and Creole. Despite the popular religion of Vodoo practiced by many, it is a highly religious community dominated by Roman Catholicism, and the Seventh-day Adventist Church is one of the fasted growing denominations. The Adventist church has a 67-bed hospital and a university for the training of pastors, teachers, nurses, and other professionals. Both institutions are located in one of the most populous areas outside of the capital city of Port-au-Prince. In Haiti is found a large French-speaking Adventist community, with 65 percent of the members under 35 years of age. In spite of serious socioeconomic challenges and frequent political turbulence for the last decade, the missionary spirit of the membership is exceptional; the laity works very closely with the ministry to advance the gospel proclamation.
