  Guatemala
Description
Spanish-speaking Guatemala has coastlines on both the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. More than half its people are of mixed Amerindian and Hispanic descent, and there is a thriving Mayan culture which mingles traditional and Christian practices. Because education is an important ministry, Seventh-day Adventists have been grateful for American lay sponsorship of 700 children in the Adventist elementary and secondary schools. Other assets in this country, where three out of four members are under 30 years of age, include Adventist World Radio broadcasting, Dorcas assistance, and women in evangelism. The goal of the Central Conference is a 300 percent increase in congregations by the year 2003.
