  Spain
Description
The Kingdom of Spain includes the Canary Islands which are 60 miles off the west coast of Africa and the five Balearic Islands in the Mediterranean Sea off the east coast of Spain. Because Spain has one of the lowest birth rates in the world, the population is aging. Still, two of three Seventh-day Adventists are younger than 50 years of age. Another challenge is the secularization of the Spanish society. However, laypersons have organized an Adventist-Laymen's Services and Industries (ASI) chapter which has taken on the project of supporting the Old People's Home and the Guinea Mission. Literature evangelists are opening up new opportunities, and a new initiative called "The Challenge of. . ." is placing families into unentered territories to begin a witness. Highly effective are four primary schools, where sixty percent of the 700 students are not from Adventist homes. Another outreach is to the 1,500 Romanian church members now living in Spain.
