  Belize
Description
Once part of the ancient Maya empire, Belize was formerly known as British Honduras and remains part of the British Commonwealth. Vulnerable to hurricanes, Belize has received assistance from ADRA, and Maranatha Volunteers have reconstructed and/or built 15 churches. Most of the government-funded schools are administered by the Catholic church. However, Seventh-day Adventists operate Belize Adventist College in Corozal Town in addition to other Adventist schools, contributing to a young church with most of the members under 30 years of age. Growth has been steady and emphasis has been focused on nurturing all new converts. English is the official language, but most speak a Creole dialect reflecting the racial mix.
