  India
Description
This Asian sub-continent is bordered on the north by the Himalayas, highest mountains in the world; the Arabian Sea on the west; the Indian Ocean on the south; and the Bay of Bengal on the east. India also boasts a recorded history, dating back to the 15th century BC. In India's complex racial mix and rich diversity, there are more than 1,652 mother tongues, 33 spoken by more than 100,000 and another 15 by more than a million. It is these languages which challenge the church. There are no Seventh-day Adventists in most of the mother tongues, very little literature in the major languages, and nothing in the others. But the major challenge is that more than 2,000 congregations have no place in which to worship. Growth is achieved through house-to-house visitation by pastors' wives who receive a small stipend to do evangelism with their husbands. ACTS 2000 meetings were translated into eight languages, and the video tapes are circulating beyond the satellite sites. Most of the Global Mission Pioneers and The Quiet Hour volunteers are under 30 years of age. More than 100,000 students are enrolled in 221 Adventist schools. They have the freedom, they have open doors, but they need resources to accomplish the mission.
